Q: The time and/or date is incorrect on the keypad (of my DSC system). How do I change it?
A: To change the system time on your keypad, press *6 [master code] 1 [time (24 hour format)] [date, i.e. 07 06 12] #
Q: How do I change the master code?
A: To change your master code press *5 [current master code] 40 [new master code] #
Q: How do I add a new user code?
A: Press *5 [master code] then enter a user number like 01 or 02 then enter [new code] #
Q: I have a trouble light or yellow triangle lit on my DSC system, what does that mean?
A: Pressing # will silence the beeping. Press * 2 and it will indicate what type of trouble you have. If a 1 pops up at the top of the keypad, press 1 again. If the 1 remains then you need a new back-up battery. We would be glad to replace it for you. For all other numbers, please contact us for service.
Q: We already have a system in place. Can we add any additional protection?
A: If it is one of our DSC systems then we have the flexibility to add additional sensors such as window contacts, glass break detectors, smoke detectors and more. We would be glad to give you a free estimate.
Q: We have pets, can we use motion detectors?
A: It depends on how many and what type of pet. Location of the detector is also critical. We always install motions with 55 lbs. pet-immunity and they must be adjusted for sensitivity. We also install motions with up to 100 lbs. pet-immunity. Dogs tend not to set motions off while cats can jump up to the sensor levels. Please consult us with your specific situation and we’d be glad to give our recommendations.
Q: I am thinking about getting a home automation system. Are your security systems compatible?
A: Yes, with a simple to install home integration module, we are able to integrate your security panel with most home automation systems such as Control4 and Crestron as well as others. We will gladly work with your Audio/Video provider to ensure a smooth installation and set-up.
Q: Does my system qualify for an insurance discount?
A: Our monitoring station is UL (Underwriters Laboratories) approved so in most cases yes. Most insurance companies offer 10% off homeowner’s insurance premiums with a monitored system. Some even give an additional 5% or more if fire monitoring is added. Check with your agent for the specific discounts your policy is eligible for.
Q: Will DSL affect my alarm system?
A: Yes. A special DSL filter will need to be installed to ensure communication is working with the monitoring station. It is a special filter which is not the same filter that is supplied by the phone company.
Q: Do I need a phone line to hook up my alarm monitoring service?
A: Not necessarily. With the installation our cellular alarm communicators, we can use this device as a primary means of alarm transmission. The unit is a dedicated device that goes typically mounts next to the alarm panel if we determine the signal strength is strong enough.
Q: Is there an additional cost for the cell unit?
A: Yes. There is an additional monitoring fee and the cost of the unit. Even though you’re paying more for the monitoring, you’re actually saving money by not having to pay for a land line.
Q: Will VOIP phones work with my alarm system?
A: In most cases the answer is no. VoIP phone transmission is not a UL approved means of transmission. The problem is that often the signal does not get through with VOIP phones. The system may work fine for 6 months, and then all of a sudden, you can’t get the signals to go through. Your best option for central station monitoring if you have VoIP would be a cell communicator.
